The Church’s Worship and Work
There a certain things that are fundamental to the identity of the church: namely its worship and work. The church consists of people who worship- that is, by the power of the Holy Spirit and the truth of Scripture, they respond to the revelation of the Triune God in love, adoration, honor, praise, and obedience. The church also has a particular work to do. This work is to make disciples. That is, make others followers and learners of Jesus. The Great Commission in Matthew 28:16-20 illuminates two key characteristics of being a member of the body of Christ. First, possessing a worshiping heart that loves, adores, and obeys God; secondly, actively engaging in the work of making disciples which implies winning souls for Jesus Christ. God’s Word reminds us that we are to take the gospel into places in every corner of the world (Acts 1:8) and that includes prisons. We thank God for the faithful men in prisons who continue to share the gospel! We also thank God for the souls who repented and believed the gospel and got saved this past Sunday during our worship service!
God is redeeming man back to Himself and what a privilege it is to participate in God’s redemption plan by proclaiming the only message that can save a soul- the gospel message! Romans 1:16.
To God be the glory for the things He has done!
